A fatal tractor-trailer fire has resulted in havoc on Hwy.

The first truck then struck the centre barrier and a light pole, spilling chalk into the eastbound lanes and westbound express lanes.

The truck subsequently burst into flames and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Toronto Fire Capt. David Eckerman told CP24 Monday morning that crews were called to the scene after callers reported seeing flames across all lanes of the highway.

No other injuries were reported.

The crash closed the eastbound express and collector lanes at Avenue, and the westbound express lanes from Yonge Street to the Allen.

The eastbound lanes were reopened just before 9 a.m. but traffic continues to move slowly through the area.

Ontario Provincial Police said the transport truck, which was carrying flammable material and paint thinner, was parked on the shoulder of the eastbound express lane when it was struck from behind by the flat-bed tractor-trailer.

There's no time frame when the highway will fully reopen.

"The highway will have to be cleaned by the (Ministry of Transportation)".
