"Paris 2024 is proud to be working together with the IOC and our friends in Los Angeles to reach a positive solution for both cities, the games and the whole Olympic Movement for 2024 and 2028", bid committee co-chairman Tony Estanguet said. Besides 1924, the French capital also hosted the Olympics in 1900. America always shines brightly during the Games, and LA 2028 will be no exception.

"If approved, the IOC, LA and Paris may enter a tripartite agreement, clearing the way for IOC Membership to simultaneously confirm the Olympic Games 2024 to Paris and the Olympic Games 2028 to Los Angeles at the next IOC session in Lima, Peru on September 13, 2017".

But the possibility that Los Angeles would abandon a 2024 bid and instead accept the 2028 Games has been growing since the International Olympic Committee decided in July that in an unprecedented move it would attempt to award both Games at its Lima meeting.

The Paris team held out for the 2024 Games, saying that their planned Olympic Village site could not be held open for the later date and that their guarantees from central and regional government were specific to 2024.

The IOC will also advance Dollars 180 million to LA organisers to lessen the impact of the longer leadup time, money that normally wouldnt be disbursed until closer to the Games kickoff.

He said that the planning committee estimates that the games will cost $5.3 billion.

Macron, too, was "delighted by this very important step towards obtaining the Games for France in 2024", his office said.

The agreement will bring the Olympics back to Southern California for a third time, after Los Angeles hosted in 1984 and 1932.

"The IOC welcomes this decision of the Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic bid committee".

This is the first time the Summer Olympics will be held in the US since the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. The city had signaled its willingness since IOC President Thomas Bach began exploring the possibility of a double award earlier this year.

"This time we've won it", said a headline on the front page of Le Parisien newspaper.

The IOCs efforts to streamline the bidding process didnt help boost the number of candidates for 2024. Hamburg, Budapest and Rome also pulled out of the race.

“In sports terms, there is no other metaphor it was a marathon, ” Garcetti said of the arduous process. That attitude is consistent with their position since launching the bid a little but more than two years ago, which contrasted with the perceived arrogance in previous bids for the 1992, 2008, and 2012 Games. We arent going to see sports go away. “Im not anxious about those things.

“When you look at those risks, sure in some scenario if the entire Earth falls apart probably the Olympics arent happening in Los Angeles.
