The Sweden worldwide became Manchester United's first signing of the summer transfer window in June after the Red Devils agreed a £30.7m deal with Portuguese champions Benfica.

United bought Lukaku from Everton this summer for £75 million and the former Chelsea and West Brom striker has so far repaid Jose Mourinho's side with strong displays during their tour of the United States, scoring in friendlies against Real Salt Lake, Manchester City and Valerenga.

"Manchester United needed some new blood and the injury to Zlatan Ibrahimovic removed the question as to whether he was replaced", he told Sky Sports.

Lukaku finished second on the Premier League scoring charts with 25 goals last season, behind only Harry Kane's 29, and Rafael, now at Ligue 1 side Lyon, says the Belgium worldwide can build on his impressive body of work at United.

"Manchester United is a huge club, huge responsibility".

Some fans of rival clubs, however, seem intent on seeing Lukaku fail at Old Trafford, and have pinpointed his inconsistent first touch as a stick to beat him with.

Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season but managed to win the EFL Cup and the Europa League under Mourinho last term. He wouldn't have felt that before and you can't get away with the odd mediocre performance.

Whether or not that criticism is fair, Giggs says the rest of Lukaku's new United teammates can not rely on the Belgian forward to get them out of trouble.

Last season, only Ibrahimovic reached double figures in the Premier League, with Juan Mata's six the next best.

'There were too many home games last season where we didn't take our chances but it's not just down to Lukaku, the rest of the team need to be contributing as well'.
