Warmer temperatures forecasted for the Rockies this week are expected to fuel the flames on a wildfire near Banff's Sunshine Village.

The Sunshine Village resort is closed, along with trails in the Egypt Lake area, Healy Pass, Citadel Pass and Sunshine Meadows.

The smoke will likely settle in the evenings.

Park said the main objective of the 80 firefighters and eight aircrafts battling the blaze is to contain the fire and prevent spread towards the north, keep the fire west of the continental divide while reducing spread into the 93 south corridor.

Calgarians could be in store for some smoky days as crews continue to work on the Verdant Creek wildfire burning in Kootenay National Park and Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park.

Parks Canada said Sunday that the fire was covering about 51 square kilometres, but was not a threat to any communities. "This fire is now not a threat to local communities".

The approximate size of the fire is hard to ascertain because of the smoke.

The fire is now considered "out of control" by inter-agency forestfire terminology, because it only responds to suppression on a limited basis.

"We do not have a full containment line around the fire", Park said.

Given the steep terrain of the narrow valley where the fire is now burning, Park said there is no opportunity to put additional fire crews on the ground.
