One relief for parents this year is that personal computers are back on the list of items eligible for the tax break. It also includes computers and software that meet the price requirements.

For 2017, the three-day holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 6.

Walmart told 40/29 News in a statement, "During these holidays, customers pay no sales tax for items such as school supplies, apparel and backpacks". It also includes material to make school uniforms or other school clothing. Many items are included in the exemption, such as costumes, diapers, bathing suits, coats and other articles of clothing.

"The annual sales tax holiday is a ideal opportunity to get some or all of your back-to-school shopping under way and save some money", said Nia Ray, director of the Missouri Department of Revenue.

This holiday is a temporary period when sales taxes are not collected for specific products. If the jurisdiction had previously enacted an ordinance to not participate in the holiday and later chose to participate, it must enact a new ordinance to participate and notify the department 45 days prior to the sales tax holiday.
