Attention, chicken wing fans.

A quick history lesson from the National Chicken Wing Day website indicates that the finger food began to gain major-league momentum in 1964 after a bar owner in Buffalo, N.Y., tossed a few wings in her deep-fryer, slathered them in butter and hot sauce, then pigged out. There are plenty of special deals available on Saturday.

Buffalo Wild Wings: Half-off wings on July 29 for dine-in order at participating locations.

Today, wings are a favorite and according to the National Chicken Wing site, in 2013 more than 27 billion wings were eaten in the United States.

Quaker Steak and Lube: From July 29 to September 30, the new "Bangin' Drums" are available for $7.49 at participating locations.

First, Wingstop will give away five free boneless wings with any wing purchase between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday.
