House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, who was critically wounded after a gunman opened fire at a congressional baseball practice in June, has been discharged from the hospital after six weeks.

The Louisiana congressman and four others were shot June 14 during practice for a charity baseball game at a park in Alexandria, Virginia.

It was bad enough as it is, but we and all Americans should rejoice in the progress in Rep. Scalise's condition and offer best wishes for a continued recovery.

As the Post noted, "The gunman, James T. Hodgkinson, a 66-year-old unemployed home inspector from southern IL, died after the shootout".

MedStar Washington Hospital Center says the six-term Louisiana Republican was released from the hospital on Tuesday and is beginning "intensive inpatient rehabilitation".

The hospital added that he is "in good spirits and is looking forward to his return to work once he completes rehabilitation".
