Two of the occupants were trapped in the plane but one managed to escape through a door that opened on impact according to the sheriff's office. We're told the incident happened in Black Wolf, Winnebago County - near the EAA grounds. Two suffered critical injuries; the third person's injuries are described as "not life-threatening".

Officials say one first responder also got a cut and burn responding to the crash. The cause of the crash is unknown.

The plane is a six-seat Lake Renegade amphibious plane fitted for both land and water, likely built between the mid-1980s and early 2000s, said EAA Director of Communications Dick Knapinski.

The FAA and NTSB are now investigating the accident.

The U.S. Coast Guard, Oshkosh Fire Department and people from the seaplane base assisted.
