Nitish Kumar Joins Hands With BJP

This comes after Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar with BJP leader Sushil Modi being sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister.

Now in power in his state with the help of prime minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party, Mr Kumar has subtracted his considerable weight from the ranks of parties that stand against the BJP - a party he opposed until now.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday resigned from his post after RJD legislative party decided that Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, against whom corruption charges have been slapped by the CBI, would not be resigning from this post.

In the Congress and RJD assessment in Bihar, Nitish Kumar had planned his exit a while ago and there was nothing that they could have done to stop him.

The deft political manoeuvres by Janata Dal (United) chief Kumar left the opposition stunned as he joined hands with friend-turned-foe-turned-friend BJP.

In what could be called a "Ghar wapsi" for Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar today joined the National Democratic Alliance again to form the government with the BJP. Besides, they have the support of NDA allies LJP (02) and RLSP (02).

Nobody from the RJD or the Congress attended the swearing-in ceremony protesting the "denial of chance" to the RJD, the single-largest party in the state assembly, to form government. Nitish Kumar's resignation came nothing short of a bombshell for many who were expecting the CM to instead act against his deputy. Tharoor pointed out how this is the third time that the BJP has formed the government after losing the elections, citing Goa, Manipur and Bihar as the instances that "show our democracy in poor light".

He appealed to all JD (U) MPs to denounce the decision and quit the party.

"For the bright future of the country, and especially Bihar, it is the need of the hour to rise above political differences and join the fight against corruption", Modi said.

The Janata Dal (United) on Friday slammed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav for accusing their chief of being involved in an alleged murder case and said that they will drag Lalu to the court for making such an accusation.

He said the RJD is taking the opinion of legal experts on this issue. In the late evening, the picture became clear with NDA supporting Nitish Kumar. "I've known this for three-four months ..."

"We regret our decision to run the government with such a person (Lalu Prasad) for 20 months". In the Telugu States, we are seeing how Modi is cosing up with TRS and YSR Congress while being totally insensitive to its ally, TDP.

The Congress today described Nitish Kumar's joining hands with BJP to remain in power as "rank opportunism and treachery with people's mandate" and said it was "a black day" for Indian democracy.
