Antonio Conte has admitted that Alvaro Morata needs time to adapt to Chelsea's "idea of football" after making his debut from the bench in Chelsea's 3-2 defeat to Bayern Munich. Last season, the Spanish worldwide scored 20 goals in all competitions for Los Blancos and won La Liga title as well as the UEFA Champions League trophy.

Cesc Fàbregas has said that Chelsea's new striker, Álvaro Morata, will have to make an immediate impact to show he can be a successful replacement for Diego Costa.

The Spaniard made an nearly instant impact when he nodded on a corner to allow Batshuayi to stab home from close range in the 86th minute but Bayern held on for victory in front of 48,500 fans packed into the Singapore National Stadium.

The 24-year-old was used mainly as a substitute in his sole campaign back at the Bernabeu after leaving Juventus.

In contrast, Lukaku has exceeded 2,000 minutes for five consecutive Premier League seasons with Chelsea, West Brom and Everton - scoring or surpassing 15 league goals in four of those and hitting a career-high 25 last season.

So how to the two players' stats compare?

Only a day after hinting to the media that he might change his strategy and take more chances to go for goal, Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller delivered.

"In this moment, he is more efficient closer to the goal and this is important".

After signing the contract, Morata said, "I'm so happy to be here".

Both players are evenly matched for winning duels and taking touches on the ball, but Chelsea's new frontman surpasses Lukaku for tackles and fouls won. Given Morata's superior headed goal ratio, those stats might also point towards Everton's efforts to target Lukaku from deep and wide positions. Instead, the Blues fought back and even produced a period of frantic pressure at the end as if this were truly some meaningful elimination game - though maybe we need to come up with a better plan for any future late-game scenario like that.
