Some evacuations were lifted Saturday as firefighting crews made progress on the blaze.

The residents of Coulterville and surrounding areas were allowed to return home around noon, Cal Fire said.

"(Saturday) night firefighters continued to complete and improve direct and secondary fire lines", Cal Fire said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. "(The) fire is still making minimal uphill runs in tall grass and chaparral".

The number of single-family residences destroyed has reached 63, with 13 damaged. A total of 44 large fires across 11 western states were burning on Thursday, according to the National Interagency Fire Center's website. One commercial structure has been lost, 67 minor structures have been destroyed, and 8 damaged.

Growth on a wildfire burning in central California has slowed, but flames are still threatening about 1,500 structures.

"Weather is expected to remain above 100 degrees with low humidity", Cal Fire said Sunday.

There are now 4,756 personnel assigned to the incident including 501 engines, 65 water tenders, 92 hand crews, 88 dozers, 20 helicopters and air tankers as available. "We ask the public to exercise caution and remember that, 'One Less Spark-One Less Wildfire'". All of Rancheria Creek Rd.
