A Palestinian stabbed an Israeli in the neck at a fast food restaurant near the commercial capital of Tel Aviv on Monday before being arrested, police said.

Police say the victim was a resident of Arab-Israeli village Arraba in northern Israel and the attacker was from the West Bank city of Qalqilya. "We provided him with lifesaving medical treatment, stopped his bleeding wounds, transported him onto an MDA mobile intensive care unit, and evacuated him to Beilinson Hospital in moderate-severe condition". The Israel Police has yet to announce whether this was a nationalistically motivated attack.

Samri said that "the initial investigation suggests that the motive was nationalistic".

The Palestinian assailant told investigators of the attack: "I did it for Al Aqsa", according to reports.

The Palestinians and some Muslim countries see the new security measures as a violation of the long-held status quo at the site, under which the Jordanian Muslim Waqf holds the administrative authority. The suspect, a West Bank resident, was arrested.
