Officers fatally shoot man armed with pellet gun in Spencer

A Spencer man was shot and killed by police Sunday night after pointing what appeared to be a gun at officers following a short pursuit.

The driver of the auto pulled into a driveway on Northwest Road, police said. Police said after a short chase, the driver exited the vehicle, he pointed what the officer thought was a firearm.

The officer, who has not yet been identified, fired a single shot, striking the man.

The unidentified man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The vehicle the suspect was driving was towed from the property around 3:30 a.m. Monday.

According to the Worcester County District Attorney's Office, investigators found a replica handgun near the man after the shooting.
