This is the first time in the history of Indian National Congress in Kerala that an MLA of the party is getting arrested.

M Vincent MLA, who was arrested the other day for the alleged sexual abuse of a woman, has been stripped off all his official posts in the Congress, including that of the KPCC secretary, said KPCC president M M Hassan on Sunday. "This could have been the move by opposing groups to mark M M Hassan as the protector of molesters of women. The CPM MLA of Neyyattinkara and local party leaders are behind it", said Hassan.

Pointing out that MM Hassan's statement that the case was politically motivated is baseless, Kodiyeri said that the police took action on the basis of the complaint submitted by the woman.

"The party has made a decision to remove him from official positions till he is cleared of the charges", KPCC president M M Hassan said.

Kodiyeri also urged the Congress high command to clarify their stance on the issue.

Amid the demand for Vincent's resignation from several quarters, including a few women leaders of the Congress itself, the top leadership of the Congress has chose to wait till the case reaches its legal conclusion.
