Severe storms rolled through the St. Louis area Saturday night and into Sunday morning, leaving several homes in Missouri and IL without power.

Independence reported just over 7,000 customers without power, about half of what was reported at the height of the storm at 15,000. There were also numerous reports of tree damage and power outages. Earlier Saturday, a severe thunderstorm watch was issued until 1 a.m. Sunday. "And, definitely stay away from any downed power lines or tree brush that could have lines underneath".

Kansas City Fire Department officials responded to a water rescue near 79th Street and Ward Parkway about 10:20 p.m. after a flash flood hindered traffic in the area.
