With his piercing vocals and dynamic stage presence, Chester Bennington was the lead singer of Linkin Park for almost two decades, until his death at age 41 in an apparent suicide.

TMZ broke the news on Thursday afternoon to reveal that Chester Bennington's body was discovered shortly before 9 a.m. that day.

Bennington had spoken of being moved by the death in May of his friend Chris Cornell, the singer of leading grunge band Soundgarden.

The band were set to continue their One More Light world tour in North America, with a date at The Xfinity Center in MA on Saturday 27 July.

Chester Bennington, the lead singer of Linkin Park, wrote those words after the death of Chris Cornell back in May.

This is a developing story. Their blend of rap, electronica and heavy metal took the release to No 2 on the Billboard charts in America, and it went on to sell more than 10 million copies. In 2004 LP teamed with rapper Jay-Z for a collaborative EP titled Collision Course.

Linkin Park was set to play at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre August 14th as part of their One More Light tour. "I did it because i know there are other people out there who have gone through the stuff I have, and it feels better to know you're not alone". "Prayers up for your family right now my brother".

The singer spoke openly about his state of mind when they started working on the new album. I'd like to think you were saying goodbye in your own way.

"I met a kid a few days ago who said, "You were the first rock band I ever listened to" and I hear that all the time", he said in the same Metal Hammer interview past year. "I remember thinking that I wanted to be left alone".

Bennington, a father of six children, suffered with drug and alcohol addictions, and had revealed in a past interview that he had been sexually abused as a child.
