A mug shot of a haggard-looking Dennis Hastert was released Wednesday by the Lake County sheriff's office, which placed the former U.S. House speaker on electronic monitoring after his transfer from federal prison earlier this week.

Hastert left prison Monday, prison officials said Tuesday. It's unclear if he will be allowed to move from the halfway house and serve the rest of his sentence on home confinement, according to the Tribune. But he declined to confirm Hastert's location, including whether he's at his home in Plano, 50 miles from Chicago.

Hastert, a onetime Republican powerhouse who was second in line for the presidency, was released Monday from a federal prison in Minnesota after serving almost 13 months for violating banking regulations to cover up the sexual abuse of teenage boys.

Dennis Hastert is far from putting his child sex-abuse scandal in the past just because he's been released from a federal prison after serving a little over a year on a related banking conviction.
