Matt Damon will portray Kennedy, the USA presidential candidate who was fatally shot at the Los Angeles' Ambassador Hotel in 1968.

Matt Damon is to team up with Nikolaj Arcel on a Robert F. Kennedy biopic.

Damon, a native of MA, has said in interviews going to back to 2014 that he wanted to portray Robert F. Kennedy in a movie. Gary Ross was previously on board to direct with Steven Knight writing the script, but things have since shifted.

The 46-year-old actor has made no secret of his desire to play Robert F. Kennedy, the younger brother of former U.S. president John F. Kennedy.

"A Royal Affair" premiere arrival at Roy Thomson Hall.

It follows his transformation from serving as the US General Attorney under his older brother President John F Kennedy, to becoming a much-loved NY senator until his assassination during his 1968 campaign for president. Production on the film is slated to begin early in 2018, with an eye for an awards-qualifying release later in the year.

According to Variety, Damon will produce the Warner Bros motion picture along with Jennifer Todd and Drew Vinton.

Sony will open "The Dark Tower", based on the Stephen King story and starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, on August 4. It marks the director's first major American feature, and though reviews have yet to come in, the expectations are high. If Arcel's take is true to the original description that was floated around, it sounds like it will be a more expansive look at the late politician.
