Donald Trump Jr and Jared Kushner called to testify to US Senate

President Donald Trump's eldest son and a former campaign manager will testify before Congress next week as part of United States investigations into the Trump team's alleged contacts with Russian Federation, a Senate panel announced Wednesday.

Trump has denied any collusion.

"This might actually be a nothing burger", Colbert said after commenting that he wants to believe Trump.

Both Trump Jr and Manafort were told in letters from the panel's senior members to "preserve all relevant documents in your possession... related to Russian interference in the 2016 election, including documents related to your or the Trump campaign's contacts with Russian government officials, associates or representatives".

Peskov said there were no current plans for a new meeting between Trump and Putin, but there was a chance that such a meeting would occur "at some point".

The three men are the closest associates of the president to be called to speak to lawmakers involved in probing Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential elections and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

The three members of Trump's inner circle attended a meeting in NY in June a year ago with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya after being promised damaging material on Trump's election rival, Hillary Clinton.

Also, a lawyer for Trump's powerful son-in-law and adviser said Jared Kushner would speak to the Senate intelligence committee on Monday. "If he would have recused himself before the job, I would have said, 'Thanks, Jeff, but I'm not going to take you, '" Trump said.

The senators said they would issue subpoenas if the witnesses did not produce the required documents.

So much for an undisclosed meeting between the two leaders, when other leaders were present.

Deep divisions are growing in the White House over President Donald Trump's approach to Russian and its president. The Justice Department's special counsel investigating the extent of the Russian government's involvement in and influence on the 2016 presidential election.

The encounter between Donald Trump Jr. and attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya was set up by Briton Rob Goldstone, a publicist associated with pop singer Emin Agalarov, the son of magnate Aras Agalarov, a past business associate of the elder Trump.

Speaking on Fox News last night, Trump Jr said he had not told his father about the meeting because "there was nothing to tell".
