Michelle Mungall named to NDP cabinet

Two former B.C. NDP leaders have received two of the most important portfolios in Premier John Horgan's new cabinet. "And we'll work hard to deliver on our commitments to British Columbians".

Burnaby's only cabinet minister is rookie Katrina Chen (Burnaby-Lougheed), who's minister of state for child care. North Vancouver-Lonsdale NDP MLA Bowinn Ma has been named parliamentary secretary for TransLInk.

"Starting today, we will deliver a government that works for people", added Horgan. "We're going to work hard every day to build a better B.C.", said Horgan.

Horgan will hold his first cabinet meeting with the Greens on Wednesday and then spend the rest of the summer getting up to speed on files and government transition.

Minister of Agriculture - Hon.

Minister of State for Child Care - Hon. Other Surrey MLAs in cabinet are Jinny Sims (Surrey-Panorama) as the minister of citizens' services and Harry Bains (Surrey-Newton) as the minister of labour.

Minister of Education - Hon.

Nelson-Creston MLA Michelle Mungall has been named the new Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources.

Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy - Hon.

Carole James (Victoria-Beacon Hill) has been appointed as finance minister and deputy premier.

Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations, and Rural Development - Hon.

Adrian Dix (Vancouver-Kingsway) is the new health minister.

Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation - Hon.

· George Chow (Vancouver-Fraserview), minister of state for trade.

Coquitlam-Maillardville's Selina Robinson is the minister of municipal affairs and housing. Mike Farnworth (Port Coquitlam) is the minister of public safety and solicitor general.

Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction - Hon.
