South Korea offers rare talks with North to ease tension

"The fact that we wish to take on a leading role in resolving this (North Korean) issue has already been understood at the summit with the United States and the Group of 20 summit meetings", Cho said on Monday.

North Korea's multiple missile tests in recent months, culminating with its first-ever successful launch last week of an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching Alaska, has alarmed the global community and presented Trump's first major foreign policy test.

Inter-Korean cooperation and aid have come to a full stop over the last nine years under the conservative governments and global sanctions following North Korea's deadly attacks to South Korea and missile and nuclear tests. While not elaborating on these "hostile" activities he has previously called for an end to the provocative messages played via loudspeaker through the DMZ. South Korea has recently accused the North of sending military drones to spy on the South, an issue that Seoul would be likely to raise.

The Trump administration is weighing news sanctions on small Chinese banks and shell corporations linked to North Korea, Reuters reported Thursday.

Despite rounds of worldwide sanctions on Pyongyang, North Korea's trade deficit with China has risen to its highest level.

The U.S. has been trying to get China and Russian Federation to back a new UN Security Council resolution imposing stiffer sanctions on North Korea following its latest missile test. The village sits along the border between the two sides.

"The local church has actively participated in the exchanges between [the two nations] such as sending medicines and supporting farming development in North Korea and it will keep doing it", said Archbishop Kim.

NORTH Korea must make "serious moves" towards giving up its nuclear weapons programme before talks with the European Union can take place, Boris Johnson has said.

The significance of proposing this date is because the 64th anniversary of the truce, which effectively ended the Korean War in 1953, falls on July 27.

Family Research Council Senior Fellow for National Security Bob Maginnis contends that any strike to take out North Korean nuclear missiles is problematic because the South Korean capital of Seoul, with 20 million people - including 300,000 Americans - is in range of North Korean artillery.

The North Korean government did not immediately respond to Moon's overtures. In the Asia-Pacific region, anxiety is highest among Pyongyang's closest neighbors - Japan, the Philippines and South Korea, where around 60% or more say they are very concerned.

It is obvious that North Korea is racing to produce as many nuclear weapons as possible as the Trump administration increases pressure on China and Russian Federation to halt the North's nuclear activities.
