Speaking after rocking Jordan 31s following his Summer League semifinal victory against Dallas, Ball admitted as much. In his last three games, he has played in a different brand of shoe, and the results have been solid.

"It's making a statement to the brands of what they could have had with an open mind", LaVar told ESPN.

"Quite frankly we are officially in the shoe game, and are a billion dollar brand either way", he said. "The players are the brand ambassadors".

Lonzo Ball had 14 points, 10 assists and four rebounds in the first half of Sunday's game, as the Lakers built a 62-40 lead.

After wearing his signature shoes in the first two games, Lonzo wore Kobe Bryant's Nike Kobe AD in the game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday last week.

Ball has garnered more attention in the last two games not only for his surprising choice of shoes - steering away from the Big Baller Brand upstart that has sold its shoes online and will ship on November 23 - but because he registered two straight triple doubles. They are priced at $495 and will begin shipping November 23.

Big Baller Brand's $495 kicks (and the signed-by-Lonzo $995 versions) were always a tough sell, but we kind of liked the idea of a rookie shunning the traditional sneaker contract system in favor of his own label.

Both LaVar and Lonzo Ball said that wearing different shoe brands reflects the independence Lonzo has to switch things up. The shoe brands quickly passed.

Asked whether there is still a chance for a big shoe brand to sign his son, LaVar responded: "If the price is right". Days later, the first Big Baller Brand shoes launched on the company website. Playing on the Lakers, plus the power of his holdout, could boost that up over $2 million a year.
