Arsene Wenger insists Manchester City target Alexis Sanchez is not for sale this summer.

Sanchez said over the weekend that he had made his wishes to play in the Champions League clear to Arsenal.

"We are no longer involved".

Sanchez's preference is thought to be to move to Arsenal's rivals Manchester City, while reports have suggested the north Londoners would rather sell him overseas if possible.

Despite that, the 28-year-old forward claimed he had made his decision and was waiting for Arsenal's decision to be made.

Sanchez, who at times last season cut a disgruntled figure as Arsenal struggled with form, is not on the team's pre-season tour to Australia and China as he rests after last month's Confederation's Cup when Chile lost to Germany in the final.

We must all admit we were anxious last week when we read that Alexis had told a reporter in Chile that he desperately wanted to play in the Champions League, a trophy he has never won even with Barcelona. It's a dream that I've had since I was small.

"I don't give too much importance to things that are translated, you know". The decision is not to sell'. "What I got, he didn't really mean that".

Sanchez has a year left on his Arsenal contract and is reportedly keen to leave the Emirates Stadium in search of Champions League football, but the Gunners remain intent on holding on to him.

"The decision has been made and we will stick to that".

But Wenger was still perhaps a little put out by Sanchez's preference for the Champions League, when the manager himself is viewing the Premier League as the most important competition.

'The Premier League for me today is more important than the Champions League.

Wenger's stance comes in response to quotes attributed to Sanchez in the Chilean media, but Wenger feels he could have been misinterpreted by the press.
