Alec Baldwin will star as Colonel Nathan Jessup is NBC's upcoming live production of A Few Good Men from Oscar and Emmy victor Aaron Sorkin.

Baldwin, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron also will be executive producers on the telecast.

The event will be NBC's first live adaptation of a Broadway drama in over 50 years and follows on the heels of recent live television productions "Peter Pan", "The Wiz", "Hairspray" and "The Sound of Music". This will be NBC's first move from live musicals to live stage productions, with an actor and writer who have figured prominently in its history.

In a statement, Sorkin said, "Alec is one of our greatest actors". Sorkin will pen the teleplay of the broadcast, as he did for the film version. "Having him play this role - live onstage for a television audience - is a dream come true", Sorkin said. It received an Oscar nomination for best picture.

Baldwin was just nominated for two Emmys: one in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category for portraying Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live, and one for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program for hosting Match Game. On Easter Sunday, it will offer a live production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Moving between Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in 1986, "A Few Good Men" centers on a military trial that tests the limits of fresh-faced lawyer, Lt. Daniel Kaffee, when he comes up against Col. Jessep as he works to defend three Marines on trial for murder. Baldwin takes on the role indelibly created on-screen by Jack Nicholson and originated by Stephen Lang in the Broadway play.
