According to the company, it has added two new engines - the 1.2L turbocharged petrol and the 1.5L diesel - to its powertrain portfolio.

Tata Motors, which has marginally expanded its passenger vehicle market share from 5.26 percent in April-June 2016 to 5.46 percent in April-June 2017 thanks to demand for new products like the Tiago, Tigor and Hexa, today announced launch plans for its new SUV - the Nexon. This engine, a three-cylinder unit, will generate 170Nm of torque at 2,000-4,000rpm.

Both engines will sport the first-in-segment multi-drive modes - Eco, City, and Sport. The Nexon will also be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission, to begin with.

Tata Motors states that powertrains were developed in house at Tata's Pune facility along with inputs from suppliers like AVL, Bosch, Mahale and Honeywell.

First showcased as a concept at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, its dimensions in production-ready guise will be similar to that of the concept.

While the petrol Revotron will be produced at its Sanand facility, the diesel Revotorq will be manufactured at the Ranjangaon plant.

The teaser image of the new Tata Nexon SUV reveals a more coupe-like profile and design details based on Tata's stylish Impact design philosophy. Both these engines have been designed and developed after extensive feedback from auto enthusiasts, expert drivers, followed by extensive testing across India, on different terrains. The company also said the engines are light on weight and low on friction, equipped to deliver high performance and fuel economy. Tata will manufacture the petrol Revotron engine at its Sanand facility, while the diesel Revotorq motor will be produced at the Ranjangaon plant. But before we get a closer look at the Nexon in its production avatar, Tata Motors has officially released its engine specifications.

Once launched in India, the Tata Nexon will rival the likes of best-selling Maruti Brezza and the popular Ford EcoSport.
