The Cardinals won 4-0 as the Pirates finished 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine as base as St. Louis evened the series. Taillon struck out the next two batters before Lynn doubled to center, where Andrew McCutchen bobbled the ball, allowing Voit to score and make it 2-0.

Matt Carpenter sent Lynn chugging home with an RBI single and Tommy Pham drove in Carpenter with a double to left field as St. Louis ended Pittsburgh's three-game winning streak.

Lynn came home on Matt Carpenter's soft single up the middle.

Martinez is winless in his last four starts, and his last two outings have been among his worst of the year.

"I hit the ball on the barrel for the first time in a while", he said.

Francisco Cervelli reached on an infield single leading off the ninth against Brett Cecil (1-3), and Jordy Mercer's one-out double scored pinch-runner Josh Harrison with the tying run.

"I think it's been like that all year", Frazier said.

Pham finished with three hits for his third straight multi-hit game. Taillon struck out five but tied a season high by allowing eight hits. Rather than go with righty Phil Gosselin or play Freese in a day game after a night game, manager Clint Hurdle started the switch-hitting Moroff at third. Marte is eligible to return on Tuesday against Milwaukee. "If he's challenged for a few games, we might need to back away".

Cardinals rookie Magneuris Sierra, brought back from Triple-A on Saturday, had four hits, stole a base and scored a run. Trevor Williams toes the rubber versus the visiting St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday in his first career meeting with the Redbirds.
