Jose Mourinho is known to be targeting the addition of a new defensive midfielder this summer and such a pursuit appears to have intensified after the respective signings of Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku helped solve issues in other areas of his squad.

More importantly, Spurs chief Daniel Levy is unwilling to let any more of his big-name players leave after sanctioning Kyle Walker's £50m switch to Manchester City.

Ander Herrera has admitted he thought he'd be playing with Alvaro Morata this season before Manchester United pulled out of the deal.

While a deal for Dier looks increasingly unlikely, United are said to be making progress in their quest to capture Perisic as Inter Milan close in on a potential replacement in Lazio's Keita Balde Diao.

Although Mourinho re-signed the Serbian for Chelsea during his last stint as manager at Stamford Bridge, it now seems the 28-year-old is more likely to move to Italy with claims made over the weekend that Juventus and Internazionale are vying for his signature.

The England worldwide now earns £70,000-a-week but could double his wages at United.
