Grand Central Parkway crash leaves 2 dead, driver charged, NYPD says

One man was killed and eight other people were injured in an early morning auto crash in Queens, New York.

Police say the crash, which look place near the vicinity of the 188th Street exit, occurred around 6 a.m on July 16th.

The Mercedes-Benz then careened into an embankment off the right shoulder, hit two trees and flipped over, police said early Monday.

The NYPD is investigating the collision.

Shakespeare was driving early Sunday morning when he sideswiped a auto and lost control of his SUV, police said. Akeam Grant, 16, sitting in the backseat, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Layon Campbell, 34, was sitting in the front passenger seat and was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital Center in Queens.

The driver of the Sentra, an unidentified woman, 59, of Bellerose, suffered minor neck and back pain. According to police, eight people were taken to North Shore University Hospital and Jamaica Hospital where one is in serious, but stable condition, and two others are in critical condition. Additional charges against him include vehicular manslaughter, reckless endangerment and reckless driving.
