Ross Barkley has again been ruled out of Everton's latest pre-season preparations, but new signing Cuco Martina has travelled with Ronald Koeman's squad.

Everton have already signed Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen, Michael Keane, Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez.

Martina has 30 global caps for the Caribbean former Dutch colony of Curacao, who were knocked out of the CONCACAF Gold Cup on Sunday.

'Everton is a big club with big ambitions and I'm really looking forward to joining this group of players and the manager as we try to step forward next season, ' Martina told the club website.

'Obviously, I know the manager from my time at Southampton, so I know what he wants and he knows what I can do'. He also captains the Curacao national team and just completed playing at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

With Seamus Coleman set to miss the start of the season with a broken leg sustained whilst on worldwide duty with the Republic of Ireland against Wales earlier in the year, Martina's arrival will at least provide suitable cover at right-back. The 23-year-old has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur and several Premier League clubs having entered the final 12 months of his contract, although Everton insist his absence is because of a groin injury that has required treatment and forced him to miss last week's visit to Tanzania.

"Everton supporters are really passionate about their club and everyone is excited about where the club is aiming".

Martina's versatility attracted Koeman to the Curacao worldwide, who made nine Premier League appearances for Southampton last season, as Everton attempt to balance European commitments with their efforts to break into the Premier League's top six.

'I brought the player to Southampton, so I know what he can do for us here and this is why I've now brought him to Everton.

"When you come to a new club, you need to get to know one another so the training camp in Holland will be great for me and for the other new players as well". It's also important, with the number of games we will face in the coming campaign, that we have strength and competition in the squad. "He is a player who will strengthen our squad and be able to play in different positions when that's needed, too".
