Some of Apple's new emoji will include a woman in a hijab, a woman breastfeeding, a man meditating and a man with a beard, Apple announced today. The July 17 date was picked because that's the date used in most iterations of the calendar emoji.

July 17th marks World Emoji Day and Apple chose to mark the occasion with the unveiling of new emojis to be introduced in the next iOS update in the fall.

To help celebrate World Emoji Day, Apple's showing off some of the new emoji that will launch alongside iOS 11. More animals and mythical creatures like T-Rex, Zebra, Zombie and Elf are a fun way to describe situations and new Star-Struck and Exploding Head smiley faces make any message more fun. Keep in mind the Unicode Consortium recently released version 10.0.0 of the Unicode Standard, with 56 new emoji characters for manufacturers to consider.

While hardly a holiday familiar to everyone, Apple is marking the occasion with the reveal of a number of new emojis that are set to become available later this year with the launch of iOS 11 sometime in September.
