The Detroit-area's average was down about 4 cents from a week ago to $2.37 per gallon.

"Gas prices could inch a little higher this week", AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said. "Refineries are running on all cylinders, cutting into excess crude stocks".

"The increase on the retail-side may only amount to as much as 5 cents by the end of the week", he added.

KINGSTON, N.Y. Average retail gasoline prices in NY have fallen 1.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.40 per gallon Sunday. "While this could be the start of a gradual uptick in gas prices, drivers are likely to continue saving at the pump compared to what they paid earlier this year".

Nationally, the price dropped 1.7 cents during the past week to $2.24 a gallon. According to the Energy Information Administration's report for the week ending on July 7th, gasoline demand did not hit an all-time high last week. Prices are the statewide average for a gallon of regular gasoline.

Still, Bradenton-Sarasota prices are 1.5 cents a gallon lower than the same day one year ago, and are 15.5 cents per gallon lower than a month ago.

Gas prices "have held relatively steady for the past two weeks, but now face upward pressure", according to a recent advisory from the AAA. The most costly gallon of gas in the state was recorded in West Palm Beach where the fuel was averaging $2.24 per gallon, AAA officials said.
