"I wanted to make sure that I was OK with me, feeling strong and feeling happy on my own", she told Flare magazine.

After Glee ended in 2015, Lea went on to star in TV series Scream Queens, alongside the likes of Emma Roberts and Ariana Grande, but it was announced in May that the comedy horror programme had been cancelled after two series.

Monteith was found dead in his room by staff at Vancouver's Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel on July 13, 2013.

The actor had a history of substance abuse and spent just under a month in a rehab facility earlier this year after voluntarily checking himself in on March 31. "Anything and everything, as much as possible", he told Parade in 2011.

Since his death Lea was dating Robert Buckley, but they later split.

At the time, the actress confessed that dealing with his death was not an easy task and that she continued to struggle.

Holding a black and white picture of herself and Cory, Lea said his loss "feels like yesterday".

In honor of his memory, Michele took to social media to remember Monteith, and her emotional words and touching photo will bring a tear to your eye.

Lea Michele will always have a special place in her heart for the late Cory Monteith. The actress is pictured attending the ABC Upfronts on May 16, 2017 in New York City.
