Auburn picked to finish 2nd in SEC West in media poll

Alabama was chosen to win the SEC championship by the media during SEC Media Days, earning 217 points, topping Auburn which finished second with 11 points. Behind Alabama (1,683), Auburn (1,329) and LSU (1,262) in the West, media members selected Arkansas fourth (796) followed by Texas A&M (722), Mississippi State (633) and Ole Miss (379). Alabama received 225 first-place votes. Auburn (11 votes) was picked second in the overall voting, ahead of Georgia (6), LSU (3), Florida (3), SC (1), Vanderbilt (1) and Arkansas (1). Kirk is the FBS' active career leader in punt return average (23.1).

The preseason All-SEC Team will be announced later today.

Alabama also featured five players on the first-team defense, with Fitzpatrick joined by returning junior nose tackle Da'Ron Payne, senior defensive end Da'Shawn Hand, senior linebacker Rashaan Evans, and junior safety Ronnie Harrison. Watts was on a short list of SEC players who recorded at least two interceptions, pass breakups, forced fumbles, recovered fumbles, sacks and tackles for loss.

Joining Ridley on the All-SEC first-team offense were Alabama sophomore quarterback Jalen Hurts, sophomore offensive tackle Jonah Williams and junior guard Ross Pierschbacher. In 25 years of voting, they've picked the championship game victor just six times.
