"We couldn't be any more committed to Arizona and the Valley, and the biggest project at hand is to find a home in the right place for the Coyotes in Arizona".

The Arizona Coyotes have made a major personnel decision, naming Steve Patterson their new President and CEO.

The Coyotes also promoted general manager John Chayka to president of hockey operations, a day after hiring Rick Tocchet as head coach.

Patterson fills a role that was vacated by former Coyotes co-owner Anthony LeBlanc, who stepped down as the team's president and CEO after majority owner Andrew Barroway agreed to buy out LeBlanc and the rest of the team's minority owners in June.

"I'm looking forward to working with Mr. Barroway to create a successful franchise on and off the ice and I'm very excited about the challenges and opportunities ahead".

As President of the Portland Trail Blazers, The Rose Garden and Rose City Radio, Patterson refined his skills as a turnaround specialist, while garnering national recognition for his player acquisition skills when he took over the team's General Manager duties as well. He is now the President of Pro Sports Consulting, which provides services to companies, government entities, universities and individuals that operate or seek to acquire or sell sports properties, to design, finance, build and operate sports facilities and to maximize the revenue of these and related entities.

The 59-year-old previously worked in the Valley of the Sun as athletic director at Arizona State from 2012-13 and had a tumultuous two-year run as AD at the University of Texas.

Patterson left ASU in 2013 to be Athletic Director at the University of Texas.

"Steve has a wealth of experience and has served as an innovative and successful executive in the NFL, NBA, professional hockey, professional baseball and college athletics for over 30 years". He's built championship teams and organizations and has managed stadiums, ballparks and arenas across the United States. "We're thrilled to have him join us".

Patterson does have experience with hockey as president and GM of the Houston Aeros of the defunct International Hockey League.
