"We're thrilled to bring the production of Homeland to the great state of Virginia". The Emmy-winning drama starring Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin, which was renewed for seasons seven and eight last August, returned to the USA a year ago to film in NY after spending the two previous seasons shooting in South Africa and Berlin. Having hosted shows like Turn: "Washington's Spies, Mercy Street, and now Homeland, it is clear that Virginia is a premier television production location, and I look forward to the success of this series here in Virginia". Although "Homeland" is set in Langley, Virginia, its previous filming locations have included Germany and South Africa.

The Showtime drama is relocating production to Virginia for its upcoming seventh season. The exact tax credit amount would depend on factors including how many local workers are hired and how many local goods and services are purchased.

"The film production industry is a significant economic driver for our commonwealth", McAuliffe said in a statement.

Virginia's secretary of commerce and trade Todd Haymore added, "We are pleased to host the production of Homeland, and enthusiastic about what a show of this size will contribute to our local economies".

The economic impact for Virginia for the filming of "Homeland" is expected to be more than $75 million based on the show's projected budget and estimated qualified Virginia spending, in addition to specific tourism advertising, said Andy Edmunds, director of the Virginia Film Office.

State officials said film and TV production is a growing source of revenue for the state.

Homeland was developed for American television by Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon, and is based on the original Israeli series Prisoners of War by Gideon Raff.

The series is produced for Showtime by Fox21 Television Studios. A series of Homeland's caliber and popularity gives twice - both during production and then for years after, in the form of film tourism.
