Back in April it was announced that Freeform had placed a straight-to-series order for the Marvel series New Warriors, a half-hour comedy series set to join Cloak & Dagger on the network in 2018, and now THR has revealed details of the cast for this latest instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Milana Vayntrub from This Is Us has landed the coveted role of Squirrel Girl.

Squirrel Girl is the show's most high-profile role, with major names like Anna Kendrick and Mae Whitman tossed into the casting mix.

Her character is described as "a totally empowered fangirl who has the incredible powers of a ... squirrel".

Meanwhile, the male lead of the show will be Freeform alum Derek Theler, who will take on the role of the slacker Mister Immortal.

Baby Daddy's Theler will play Craig Hollis (a.k.a. Mister Immortal), who can't die... or so he says.

New Warriors is set to debut on Freeform sometime in 2018. Although Craig's superpower seems awesome, he hasn't made use of it at all - he figures if he has all the time in the world to learn how to do anything heroic, what's the rush? Brilliant, strong, noble, and maybe a bit full of himself, Dwayne is a shameless self-promoter and entrepreneur.

Austin & Ally's Worthy will play Robbie Baldwin (a.k.a. Speedball), an impulsive people-pleaser with a misplaced sense of confidence who throws kinetic balls of energy that are completely out of control.

Zack is a shy hypochondriac whose ability is that he can talk to germs that tell him where you've been, what you ate and with whom you've hung out. Keeping secrets is not really an option around him. Finally, Kate Comer will play Deborah Fields, a.k.a. Debrii.

One more thing that we're excited about when it comes to The New Warriors?

Deborah is proud, amusing and quick-witted. Confidently out as a lesbian, Deborah is a low-level telekentic, very low like she can move a paper cup.

Entertainment Editor for The Beat covering film, television and the occasional comic book.
