Bruce has seemingly identified that he wants a tougher and more experienced spine to his side as he bids to lead the Villa Park club back to the Premier League and highlighted the veteran holding midfielder as someone who fills that characteristic.

Belting out the Ben E. King classic "Stand By Me", which enjoyed a second life when the film of the same name came out in 1987, Terry made a decent fist of it.

Steve Bruce hopes to see Sam Johnstone sign from Manchester United within the next 48 hours, as he continues to add to his Aston Villa squad. He's worth every penny.

"I've watched him from afar for a long time now and to get him here will be a great coup for the club".

Crouch, 36, is still in first-team plans at Stoke but he is unlikely to figure much next season and the time may be right for him to move on.

"But physically, he's in fantastic shape for someone of his age".

"Obviously the games of golf helped and my son trained with him", Bruce is quoted as saying by the Birmingham Mail this week as Terry's prepares for 2017/18 in the Championship.

The Scottish boss apparently wanted to sign Terry at the start of his career at Stamford Bridge.

Terry said: "That's a goal".

"Do you dream too big?"

Their primary focus, however, is on securing the return of Johnstone, with discussions between Bruce and United boss Jose Mourinho having been ongoing since before the end of last season.

"That would be incredible but I realise as well you can't go in somewhere like Chelsea as your first job".
