In a new interview, Lorde claims that she "doesn't hang out" with Taylor Swift.

"The second you think too hard about it, you'll just go insane", Lorde shared of how she "copes" with befriending her idols.

In an interview with an Australian news outlet on Friday, Lorde made comments some interpreted as suggesting she was on the outs with Taylor Swift.

The way Lorde responded to the question will surely spark a million questions about the current state of the squad, given the fact that Taylor's annual Fourth of July party didn't happen this year and Karlie Kloss mingled with Kendall Jenner in Paris instead of taking another spin on the Taymerica slide. Lorde laughed and rolled her eyes, then said, "You know, you make friends in different places, but I think for the most part I'm not, like, calling my idols for advice necessarily".

Earlier, in a separate interview on Australia's Today Show, she spoke of how she shunned the limelight following her success at The Grammys, saying: 'I really withdrew myself from being a public person and went home'. "My dad's an engineer - very methodical and very calm".

This was Lorde's big chance to play it down, take it back, declare her undying love for the A-list brigade....

Much to everyone's surprise, the Royals singer reveals she is not in contact with Swift anymore suggesting the pop princess took offence to her comparing their friendship to an autoimmune disease.

"It's like having a friend with very specific allergies", Lorde told The Guardian about being friends with someone as famous as Swift. "It's like having a friend with an autoimmune disease". "Certain things you can't do". There are these different set of considerations within the friendship.

Whether or not shade was being thrown, we'll never know, but Lorde did later apologise for comments, posting on Twitter that "I f*ed up and that was really insensitive".

Someone's starting all that melodrama.
