Ronaldo has not spoken to the media since reports emerged in Portugal of his desire to quit Madrid over a perceived lack of support from the club after Spanish authorities opened an investigation into allegations of tax fraud against the former Manchester United forward.

New Zealand's players objected to Mexico skipper Diego Reyes tugging Michael Boxall's shirt as he made a surge into the opposition half.

Soccer fans are watching the games to get a feel for what the 2018 tournament will look like.

The first flashpoint erupted in the Fisht Stadium in the first half when Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio swore at New Zealand counterpart Anthony Hudson.

Mexico face New Zealand today in Sochi in their second Confederations Cup match. It was the fifth time in a year that Federation Internationale de Football Association acted against the chant in games involving Mexico. "Our players and myself were shouting at them and the New Zealand coach to stop the match".

Having opened its Confed Cup campaign with a 2-0 win over New Zealand, Russia faces a step up against Euro 2016 victor Portugal and its troubled superstar captain. "We deserved to win and the team are to be congratulated".

Before the game Mexican coach Juan Carlos Osorio had described the All Whites as "gentlemen" but he bemoaned that 'the game was really rough, almost violent and I think that's unacceptable'.

"As you know, Federation Internationale de Football Association is very serious about the chanting that we do when the goalkeeper takes a kick, and the possible sanctions are serious", FMF said in a statement directed at the team's supporters. "We will be doing all we can to get the three points".

Javier Hernandez cancelled out Quaresma's opener shortly before halftime and the two goals in the last six minutes ensured the teams shared the points.

During last year's European Championships, Portugal's run through the knockout stage was defined just as much by their excellent defense as the play of Cristiano Ronaldo.

But the Kiwis kept battling and with Mexico allowing them plenty of space to attack, midfielder Ryan Thomas clattered the woodwork with five minutes to go. He related, "don't forget that most of these players here were part of the most brilliant history in Portuguese history just a year ago, we should not forget that and so I trust them 100%". I am expecting a really good game tomorrow.
