Cholera outbreak feared at health conference in Nairobi

Nairobi County government health official, Bernard Muia said some 10 medics among them two doctors who were part of the delegates at the conference were rushed to hospitals after they contracted a disease suspected to be cholera at Weston Hotel.

A suspected cholera outbreak caused panic at a Nairobi hotel where several delegates were attending an global health conference on Thursday.

"We have contingency measures on the ground" he said. "Most of the affected are doctors who were attending the fourth global scientific lung health conference 2017", which is scheduled to end on Friday.

It began on Tuesday and is scheduled to end on Friday.

Cholera is an acute diarrheal infection caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae.
