SLO man struck and killed by vehicle in Kansas

According to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report, 61-year-old Eric Fishbein of San Luis Obispo was killed after being hit by a vehicle in Southwest Kansas on Saturday.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Eric Fishbein, 61, of San Luis, Calif., was riding a bicycle eastbound about 10:10 p.m. Saturday on Kansas Highway 96 about 8 miles east of Leoti.

Fishbein died at the scene.

The patrol says the car's 25-year-old driver and a 27-year-old passenger were taken to a hospital with possible injuries. Some will keep pedalling, some will go home.

A Sunday post on the Trans Am Bike Race Facebook page confirmed Fishbein's death, stating "We are terribly saddened and our thoughts are with his family during this time".

A rider has been killed while competing in the Trans Am ultra-endurance race across America. Eric Fishbein was participating in the Trans Am Bike Race, which begins in OR and ends in Virginia.
