How major US stock market indexes fared on Monday

US stocks were higher in late morning trading on Monday, with the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average hitting yet another record high, as technology stocks rebounded after recent losses.

At 11:08 a.m. ET (1508 GMT), the Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI was up 107.62 points, or 0.5 percent, at 21,491.9, the S&P 500 .SPX was up 15.92 points, or 0.65 percent, at 2,449.07.

Nasdaq's biotechnology index.NBI rose 2.5 percent in its biggest one-day gain since February while the S&P's healthcare index.SPXHC had a record-high close.

The S&P's financial sector.SPSY was also one of the benchmark's strongest gainers with a 0.98 percent rise after New York Federal Reserve President William Dudley said USA inflation was a bit low but should rise alongside wages as the labor market continues to improve, allowing the Fed to continue gradually tightening monetary policy. Visit for more information on this news. Biogen climbed 3.5 percent and Morgan Stanley rose 2.8 percent.

Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.19 percent.

The S&P 500 posted 49 new 52-week highs and 10 new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 99 new highs and 87 new lows.

Trading activity was somewhat subdued, however, as a lack of major US economic data kept some traders on the sidelines.

Health care (+1.1%) also was strong, highlighted by biotechs which were led by Biogen's 3.5% surge, along with financials (+1%) and consumer discretionary (+0.8%).

Canada's benchmark stock index rose on Monday, extending its recovery from a six-month low last week, as heavyweight financial shares rallied and after Hudson's Bay Co got a boost from an investor request for the company to explore strategic options.

Technology companies and banks are leading stock indexes modestly higher in early trading on Wall Street. Bank of America gained 1.4 percent.

Today, Dow Jones futures are 71 points ahead, the S&P 500 is up 7.25, while the tech heavy Nasdaq is trading 38.5 poinst higher.

The Dow Jones industrial average increased 72 points, or 0.3 percent, to 21,457.

The Russell 2000 is up 60.95 points, or 4.5 percent.
