BRICS ministers seek end to terror financing

The development bank set up by the BRICS will aim to lend $2.5 billion to $3 billion this year, its president K.V. Kamath said earlier this year, almost double the amount the bank loaned last year.

"There is one climate and for future generations we must employ every effort at our disposal to reverse the effects of climate change", she said. "China opposes terror in all forms".

In their focus on regional and global security, the BRICS foreign ministers backed "Afghan-led and Afghan-owned" national reconciliation programme in Afghanistan, as well as a "Syrian-led, Syrian-owned" political process which safeguarded the state sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria.

Xiao highlighted the fruitful results of the meeting, saying that BRICS finance ministers and central bank governors agreed to enhance macro-economic policy coordination, combat protectionism and deepen cooperation under the financial and monetary channels of the G20.

New Delhi was expected to flag the issue of cross-border terrorism from Pakistan, and particularly the case of Pakistan-based terrorist Masood Azhar who has been accused of masterminding attacks in India, at the meet.

China has said repeatedly that it adheres to United Nations Security Council sanctions against North Korea but does not support unilateral sanctions, instead calling for restraint and diplomacy.

"In a meeting in Delhi previous year they (the NSAs) had reached significant understanding on security and counter terrorism matters", said Singh, who represented external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj at the meeting who couldn't attend herself due to health issues. "We have also set up a joint working group on terrorism and joint working group on cyber space affairs and have parliamentary interactions", Wang said, adding that the group can also uphold the legitimate rights of developing countries. "Everybody is fully concerned about the spread of terrorism in its various forms and manifestations", Singh said.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China would look to expand with more broad and wide-ranging cooperation in areas such as trade and commerce and investment in the comming years.
