Tornado warning issued for Toronto, parts of GTA

The tornado warning was first issued early Saturday afternoon and gradually moved eastward from Toronto and York Region into Durham and then continued into Pickering and Oshawa.

Doppler radar indicates a two potential tornadoes one near Golden Lake and another approximately 30 km southeast of Pembroke.

Damaging wind gusts, hail, and torrential downpours giving rainfall totals in excess of 50 mm are possible.

Environment Canada issued tornado warnings across much of the region on Saturday evening.

"This is a unsafe and potentially life-threatening situation".

Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.

The warning states that the current storm is capable of producing a tornado to the south of Saint-Alexis-des-Monts, located about 140 kilometres northeast of Montreal.

"If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris or any threatening weather, take cover immediately". "Humidex values exceeding 40 are forecast", Environment Canada warns.
