The video and site teased "brand new Atari product years in the making", however, no details have been supplied and the domain information for the site is still being hidden by a private company called Domains By Proxy.

Atari has had a hard past at times, with the company filing for bankruptcy protection in 2013.

Of course, you may have already seen various Atari Flashback all-in-one consoles on store shelves already.

It is too soon to report any development on Atari's new console as Chesnais said as its still in the early stages.

Given that Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are now truly cemented as giants of the video games console industry, it looks unlikely that Atari plans to compete with them.

One possible incarnation of what this Ataribox will be is the easy money idea of an Atari version of an NES Classic Edition that packages built-in classic Atari games like this guy.

For anyone having grown up in the 1970s to early 1990s, Atari is a brand name that they can not have missed. This confirmation comes after a teaser for the Ataribox dropped last week. Given Atari's catalog of classic games, it'd make a lot of sense for the company to re-release its library - or maybe just a handful of fan-favorites - on a "modern" console that easily connects to today's televisions via HDMI. The market for consoles is stuffed. Atari has pulled itself out of bankruptcy by making some basic mobile games, and signing licensing deals.

Maybe Atari will blow some minds.
