$100000 Powerball ticket sold in Michigan expires today

The Little River resident purchased both tickets at the Food Lion on Highway 9 in Longs for Saturday's $447 million Powerball drawing.

Jason Schaumburg, spokesman for the Illinois Lottery, told the Sun-Times Thursday this is the first time the association has considered dropping the games in the state and has never threatened to do so before.

Concern over the state of Illinois' fiscal condition prompted that decision by the Multi-State Lottery Association, according to internal Illinois Lottery communications.

News that Powerball and Mega Millions games could leave IL by the end of June was met Thursday with wide eyes and dropped jaws from some local gas-station workers.

The Multi-State Lottery Association is a non-profit, government-benefit association owned and operated by its 36 member lotteries.

Illinois Lottery Acting Director Greg Smith called the development "disappointing".

The budget stalemate could enter a third year if lawmakers don't reach agreement by July 1.

"Customers want a one-stop shop, and if we can't offer Powerball and Mega Millions, they're going to go elsewhere", he said.

NBC 5 in Chicago says Gov. Bruce Rauner will likely bring the General Assembly back for a special session next week.

Mr. McKenna's concern was that some lottery ticket revenue goes to fund education, and IL "needs that money for the children".
