However, it's possible that things could change before Kelly's latest controversial interview is set to go out on June 18. Yet the glee over Kelly's failure to launch feels like something more than high-minded concern about journalistic standards. On Monday, he claimed, without evidence, that NBC had used "deceptive editing" to make him look like a monster. It is, essentially, to invert. Since then, Jones' YouTube channel has published at least seven videos criticizing it in advance, and Kelly personally.

The families were not reassured by the promo clips that Kelly released on her Twitter page. Since many people don't know Jones and his views, Kelly noted the importance of explaining them.

Jones has moved toward the political mainstream since the election of President Donald Trump, whose campaign he endorsed and whom he has interviewed, but he's best known for promoting anti-government conspiracy theories about the 9/11 terrorist attacks, chemtrails and the massacre of 20 children and six adults in Newtown, Connecticut.

Students being evacuated from Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012 after one of the deadliest school shootings in American history.

"What I think we're doing is journalism", Kelly told the Associated Press in an interview later Tuesday.

Nelba Marquez-Greene, whose 6-year-old daughter Ana Grace was killed at Sandy Hook, said she fears that giving Jones exposure would encourage Jones' followers who have harassed her and others. "No one wants to withstand a whole week of criticism over this", a source said. "If they're able to do it to us, they can do it to you".

There are many, many other bad things where that came from - usually Alex Jones' pie hole.

"I knew in my gut this was going to blow up in their face", he said on his show. I will not let you down.

When a major outlet makes an ineffective play to hold Jones accountable, it helps to bolster that feeling of invincibility. The shooting rampage Wednesday in Alexandria only underscores the unforgivable callousness of Jones' take on Sandy Hook and his contempt for efforts to stanch the ability of murderous madmen to get their hands on lethal weapons.

Multiple advertisers have told NBC that they don't want to be anywhere near Megyn Kelly's forthcoming interview with controversial media personality Alex Jones. "They rig everything in the fake news, that's why they hate Alex Jones". Many families directly impacted by the Sandy Hook tragedy have spoken out against your decision to use your national platform to spread the conspiracy theory propaganda for a morally bankrupt individual in our society. And CBS brought in Oprah Winfrey as a contributor on 60 Minutes.

Interviewing Jones is hard to defend.

"HYPED, millions will watch".

Kelly acknowledged that she was surprised by the severity of the backlash to the interview. The Kelly interview, if it airs, is still days away from being seen by the public.

J.P. Morgan became the first corporate sponsor to want nothing to do with Jones, founder of the Infowars media empire.
