Raees was part of Pakistan's T20I squad against West Indies and made his debut for the national side a year ago in a T20I.

Pakistan have called up left-arm pacer Rumman Raees to replace injured bowler Wahab Riaz in the team's squad for ICC Champions Trophy. It turned out to be a miserable match for Wahab as he had been hammered all over the ground and conceeded 87 runs in 8.4 overs, before falling in his delivery stride. The next day, scans confirmed that the deltoid ligament complex accounted for the serious injury to his ankle, ruling him out of the Champions Trophy.

The International Cricket Council's tournament technical committee will consider the request before Pakistan's next group game against South Africa on Wednesday. As a result, he needs more than two weeks to be healthy.

The 31-year-old Wahab suffered an injury while bowling his ninth over against India in Pakistan's Champions Trophy opener. In 42 first-class matches, he has picked up 123 wickets.

Visibly scared over the giant target, Pakistan started off and lost early wickets, and subsequently registered another defeat against India after getting bowled out for a mere 164 runs in just 34 overs.

Meanwhile, Wahab was packing his bags on Tuesday after being ruled out of the Champions Trophy.

If selected, Raees will take part in Pakistan's remaining two group games against South Africa and Sri Lanka, which Pakistan will need to win to progress through to the semi-final.
