Juventus were still hopeful of winning the trophy for the first time in 21 years as they reached the interval at 1-1, but Real found several extra gears to streak away and become the first club in the Champions League era to lift the trophy in successive seasons. It was the team's sixth title since the competition's new format was created in 1992, two more than Barcelona.

"I prepared myself for this, you win the biggest prizes because of what you do at the end of the season", Ronaldo, who has benefited from playing fewer games than in previous campaigns, said as his teammates celebrated.

With a third Champions League title in four seasons secured, having dethroned Barca for their first La Liga silverware since 2012, there were wild celebrations in Madrid.

But Real, and Spain worldwide Isco in particular, have thrived in Bale' absence - winning the LaLiga title and clinching the Champions League crown largely without him. "We have the world's best players and plenty of youth. We have to give credit to Zidane, he helped us in 2001 by bringing in his talent and changing the course of history, and now as a coach he is doing a tremendous job and we have to thank him".

'I'm not going to confirm that I'm going to stay here my whole life, that just doesn't happen.

The former France playmaker's contract expires in a year, but he said he was not thinking about leaving.

Isco has been linked with a transfer to a host of clubs this summer including Manchester United and Chelsea. I don't think many players have won the Champions League in their home city where they were born, so it's a great memory to have.

His career total in all competitions now stands at 600, a record 108 of which have come in the Champions League.

Madrid also has Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale in the attack, although there have been rumors of a possible transfer involving them in the near future.

"I have a one-year contract left". Casemiro scored the other.

For Ronaldo and Zidane, it will be just another opportunity to show which team is really in charge.
