"The things we choose to be offended by is fantastic to me".

Griffin said that she participated in the photo shoot because she wanted to make an "absurdist artsy statement" that was "over the top" to symbolize what she sees as America's demise under Trump. "It was a mob mentality pile-on".

Trump responded to Griffin on Twitter writing, "Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself".

Bloom listed many artists who had used violent imagery against Trump or former presidents, including Municipal Waste, Marilyn Manson and GWAR, noting that none of them had ever apologized.

"That should have been the end of it", Bloom said.

She has since apologised for the video.

Although Griffin tearfully apologized again during her press conference, she said that she will continue to use Trump as fodder for her comedic material.

Griffin admits that her brand of shock-comedy does not meet everyone's taste, but she said she believes backlash against her photo is rooted, in part, in sexism. Griffin's attorney went on to explain that the photo, shot by Tyler Shields, was meant to be a parody of Trump's now infamous attack on Megyn Kelly in 2015. "I have no desire to hurt anybody", she said.

Griffin told reporters the scandal was also a "woman thing" and she had dealt with older white guys trying to keep her down her whole life and career.

"When you consider some of the atrocities happening in the world today, a photo opportunity like this is simply wrong", Ms Trump wrote.

The Secret Service, Nugent said, also concluded that he didn't actually threaten Obama's life.

"After hearing from many Minnesotans who were rightfully offended, I've come to the conclusion that it would be best for her not to participate in the event we had previously scheduled", the Minnesota Democrat said.

Bloom said that Griffin couldn't have imagined that her stunt would be misinterpreted and that other artists have done worse. Griffin asked in a nod to the jokes she made during the Clinton administration.

"CNN has terminated our agreement with Kathy Griffin to appear on our New Year's Eve program", the CNN Public Relations account tweeted.
